John G. Booth
Director
John G. Booth graduated with a Masters in International Finance, Tax and Environmental Law (LLM) from Kings College University of London in 1993. He also holds law degrees from both the University of Windsor (LLB) and the University of Detroit (JD) - both in 1989 - and a BSc(Hons) in Biology and Environmental Studies from the Univesity of Guelph (1986). He is a member of the bars of Ontario, New York and District of Columbia and has worked in international finance for the past 18 years. Following a brief stint as a lawyer on Bay Street, he moved to London in 1990 to join Merrill Lynch International. In 1992, he joined ICAP only to be hired away a year later by CEDEF Geneva to co-found their London structured finance business. In 1996, he joined ABN AMRO Bank in London and Amsterdam before returning to Canada in 1998 as a consultant to the CIO and General Counsel of CIBC helping them define their strategy on intellectual property as a capital asset. In 1999 he became the Chairman and CEO of BuyFX Ltd, a Bermuda based online Foreign Currency business funded by Thomas Cook and Transaction System Architects. In 2003 he joined FCCA in Washington DC in M&A before returning to London in 2004 to become a partner with Conservation Finance International, a position he currently holds. He is the non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Laramide Resources Ltd., a Uranium development company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and member of the Board of directors, audit and corporate governance committee of Maya Gold and Silver Inc, also a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Mr. Booth also serves as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of Ottawa RiverKeeper, a charity and a member of the International WaterKeeper Alliance.
