H2O Innovation is proud to share that Vikas Garud, Senior Application & Process Engineer (Vista, CA), and his ex-colleague Ashok Gadgil of University of California and
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, have won the European Inventor Award
2011 in the Non-European Countries category for their “UV WaterWorks” patent – a UV disinfection device offering a
cost-effective, easy-to-use solution for water purification.
Organized by the European Patent Organization (EPO), European
Inventor Award is Europe’s most prestigious innovation prize and pays tribute
to the creativity of all inventors who, in applying their technical, scientific
and intellectual skills, make a major contribution to technological impact,
economic growth, and improvement in people's daily lives.
In co-operation with the Hungarian EU Council
Presidency and the European Commission, the EPO announced last Thursday, May
19, 2011, the winners of the European Inventor Award 2011 at a ceremony held at
the Academy of Sciences in Budapest.

The “UV WaterWorks” was already acclaimed in USA
earlier – Technological Innovation Award by Discover Magazine in 1996 and
inclusion in permanent exhibits (History of Public Health) in National
Museum of American History (Smithsonian Museums, Washington, DC) in 1997.
